USEFUL TIPS

BEFORE DEPARTURE TO RUSSIA

• Try to get some Russian currency (roubles) at a good rate in advance, because the exchange rate at airport money changers is very bad.
• Install an application on your smartphone for a local taxi service with an English interface (Yandex.Taxi, Uber, Taxi-Maxim, etc.).
• Try to order a taxi from the airport to your hotel in advance, because on the spot you are going to pay a triple price.

UPON ARRIVAL AT THE AIRPORT

• Connect your phone to the free Wi‑Fi, especially to control your taxi order (if you have already made it).
• After customs, in the arrival hall, buy a local SIM card with at least a 3 GB internet package (“Beeline” is recommended).
• If you did not get Russian currency in advance, exchange a small amount just to pay for the taxi.
• Always remember, it can be very difficult to communicate with locals in English, but the younger generation usually can speak it.

MOSCOW KREMLIN

ARMOURY CHAMBER
The Armoury Chamber, a treasure house, is a part of the Grand Kremlin Palace complex. It is situated in a building constructed in 1851 by the famous architect Konstantin Ton.

CATHEDRAL SQUARE
There are a number of monuments in the architectural ensemble of Cathedral Square, including the Assumption, Archangel and Annunciation Cathedrals, the Church of the Deposition of the Virgin’s Robe, the Patriarch’s Palace with the Twelve Apostles’ Church and the “Ivan the Great” Bell Tower complex, as well as exhibition halls in the Assumption Belfry and the Patriarch’s Palace.

DIAMOND FUND
The Diamond Fund exhibition was opened in 1967 on the territory of the Moscow Kremlin. It is a subdivision of the Gokhran of Russia. The treasures of the Diamond Fund of the Russian Federation represent a collection of unique nuggets of precious metals and gemstones of historical and artistic value, as well as a collection of unique jewellery and other items made of precious metals and gemstones.
The Federal Government Institution “State Institution on Formation of the State Fund of Precious Metals and Precious Stones of the Russian Federation, Storage, Release and Use of Precious Metals and Precious Stones (Gokhran of Russia) under the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation” was established in accordance with the Russian Government Order No. 1646‑p of September 30, 2010.

TRETYAKOV GALLERY
An extensive museum complex. Masterpieces of Russian art of the 11th – early 20th centuries. This is a historical building that housed the collection of the founder of the Gallery, P. M. Tretyakov (since 1856).

VDNH
The Exhibition of Achievements of National Economy is the largest exposition, museum and recreational complex in the world and one of the most popular public spaces in the capital of Russia. Each year, it is visited by about 25 million people.
